PlateShift is a student-founded initiative building a reliable food-rescue network for independent bakeries, cafés, restaurants, and food businesses across Issaquah and Sammamish.

The food often exists. The connection does not.
Independent food businesses may occasionally have safe, unsold food but lack a reliable recipient, clear handling procedures, transportation, or time to coordinate donations. PlateShift is being built to close that local coordination gap.
Our team focuses on recruiting businesses, organizing volunteers and drivers, and developing dependable rescue routes. We are seeking an established nonprofit partner to provide the recipient network, training, food-safety standards, and operating infrastructure required to carry out rescues responsibly.

Recruit local donors
PlateShift identifies and builds relationships with independent food businesses in Issaquah and Sammamish.
Confirm safe donation procedures
An established food-rescue partner determines food eligibility, handling requirements, and approved recipient organizations.
Coordinate pickup and delivery
Trained volunteers and drivers collect eligible food and transport it to the designated recipient.
Track local impact
Each rescue is recorded through the partner’s approved system, including pickups completed and food recovered.
Built from local fieldwork, not assumptions.
Operational research
We have identified recurring barriers involving recipient requirements, temperature control, liability concerns, transportation, and internal business policies.
Volunteer capacity
More than 10 volunteers and drivers have committed to supporting outreach, pickup operations, transportation, and coordination.

Our initial service area is intentionally limited to Issaquah and Sammamish so we can build a reliable pilot before expanding.

PlateShift was founded by local students who saw that willingness alone was not enough to make food donation work. Our founding team is prepared to lead donor outreach, volunteer coordination, route development, communications, and local expansion.
